Pool Equipment Installation in Phoenix, AZ

Pool equipment installation in Phoenix, AZ is where a cheap job gets expensive. A pump with the wrong fittings or a filter sized for a smaller pool will run, badly, for years. A heater starved for gas will not run at all. The Pool Shack installs and replaces pumps, heaters, filters, lights, water levelers, skimmers and handrails. All of it is done under an Arizona KA-5 dual license, from our North Phoenix base.

Overview

Pool Equipment Replacement Sized for a Phoenix Pool

New equipment is only as good as the pad it lands on. Most replacements in the Valley start with a pump that quit in July. The rest start with a heater that will not fire the first cold week of November. The hard part is the sizing. Phoenix pools run long hours in summer. A pump or filter picked off the old label is often the wrong size for how the pool is actually used.

Sizing comes first. That means pool volume, plumbing size, the space on the pad and what the old unit was doing wrong. Then the equipment gets matched to the pool, plumbed properly and run before anyone calls the job done. Pumps sold today have to meet the federal efficiency rule, which is why nearly every replacement is now variable speed. Every install is done under our Arizona KA-5 dual license.

Pool Skimmer and Handrail Installation in Phoenix

Two jobs that come up during a remodel or after a leak test. Both need a contractor licensed for the shell and the deck as well as the pad.

Skimmer replacement

Soil movement cracks skimmers away from the shell. The old body is cut out and a new one set. Then it is tied back into the plumbing and the tile line.

Handrails on existing decks

Anchors are core-drilled into the deck. A metal rail is then bonded to the pool’s grounding grid, as the electrical code requires.

Equipment pad plumbing

A cramped pad is best re-plumbed when new equipment goes in. Unions, valves and the right pipe size make the next repair a twenty-minute job.

Bonding and electrical

Every metal rail, pump and heater has to be bonded and grounded to code. This is where unlicensed installs fail inspection.

Common questions

Pool Equipment Installation Questions From Phoenix Pool Owners

Installed, a variable-speed pump runs about $800 to $2,000, a gas heater $2,500 to $5,000 and a heat pump $3,500 to $7,000. Gas lines, electrical or a new pad add to that. We quote after seeing the pad.

A like-for-like pump swap on existing wiring rarely needs one. A new gas heater, a new gas line or a new electrical circuit usually does. A licensed contractor pulls the permit when the city requires it.

Yes. A Phoenix pump runs eight to twelve hours a day in summer. The 50 to 80 percent power savings of a variable-speed pump add up fast. Most pay for themselves within a few summers.

A pump, filter or light swap is usually a half day. A heater with a new gas line or electrical circuit takes a day plus inspection. A full equipment pad rebuild runs one to two days.

Yes. Installs run from our North Phoenix base across North Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, New River and Glendale. Call (480) 798-2888 with the make and model you are replacing.

Mostly no. Since July 2021 the federal DOE rule has applied to pumps of about one horsepower and up. Single-speed motors cannot meet that efficiency standard. Small booster and spa pumps are the exception.

One piece at a time is fine if the rest is under ten years old. Once the pump, filter and heater are all past that, replacing them together saves labor. The pad also gets plumbed properly once.

No. A Pentair pump will run with a Hayward filter. The exception is automation. A control system talks best to its own brand of pump, heater and lights, so those should match.

Yes. The anchors are core-drilled into the deck and set in epoxy or grout. A metal rail then gets bonded to the pool’s grounding grid, as the code requires. Polymer rails skip the bonding.

Yes. The water only needs to drop below the skimmer opening, roughly a foot, not to the floor. The old body is cut out, the new one set, plumbed and tied back into the tile line.
